According to presidential hopeful Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill), children are a form of punishment:
I’ve got two daughters. 9 years old and 6 years old. I am going to teach them first of all about values and morals. But if they make a mistake, I don’t want them punished with a baby. I don’t want them punished with an STD…
Certainly an unwanted pregnancy is a consequence of irresponsible sexual promiscuity, but calling a child a punishment in the same league as an STD? How can that come from the mouth of a father?
It’s certainly interesting (not to mention disturbing), the picture we get of Obama, when he goes off script and tells us what he really thinks. It certainly contradicts the picture he’s been trying; that of a man who transcends ideology. I call new life a blessing… he considers it a punishment…
Consider me untranscended.

Yep – mainstream American values right there.
Can’t wait for the media to put this quote in “context” for us, just as they did with Rev. Wright, Michelle, etc.
I don’t understand his thinking on this issue at all. I posted an entry on the impact of abortion on African Americans (http://thevaluesvoter.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!F3D4C1BC1D8B0D91!539.entry). I disagree with abortion in general on a moral level because life begins at conception. But the numbers are horrific, especially among blacks, and I’d like to see his response to them. Abortion is one of those things that is impossible to defend.

Actually, fucktard, the context is the elipses, deliberately left off by the original poster. They hide “…at 16.”
Yeah, there are downsides to having children at 16, a statement that would be completely uncontroversial to you right-wing fucktards if it were made by another right-wing fucktard.
[...] It makes one wonder how our current President could block legislation that would provide medical care to babies born alive like this little girl. I guess the important thing to remember is that at least the teenage girl was not “punished with a baby.” [...]
