According to the New York Times, Gov. Elliot Spitzer’s (D-NY) prostitution ring has just been broken up:
Gov. Eliot Spitzer has informed his most senior administration officials that he had been involved in a prostitution ring, an administration official said this morning.
Mr. Spitzer, who was huddled with his top aides early this afternoon, had hours earlier abruptly canceled his scheduled public events for the day. He is set to make an announcement about 2:15 this afternoon at his Manhattan office.
Mr. Spitzer, a first-term Democrat who pledged to bring ethics reform and end the often seamy ways of Albany, is married with three children.
Spitzer has been no stranger to controversy in his first term as governor (driver’s licenses for illegals, huge raises for political allies, and using state resources to dig up dirt on political opponents), but this charge is particularly ironic because he actually prosecuted prostitution rings as head of the state’s organized crime task force.
Some sources are already reporting he may be preparing to resign. Oops…

[...] has been a great deal of speculation that Gov. Eliot Spitzer (D-NY) will resign in the wake of a prostitution scandal, I wonder if he has received a pep talk from the Clintons recently, encouraging him to hold on. [...]
