Rev. Wright’s Hypocrisy

Sen. Barack Obama’s (D-Ill) pastor Jeremiah Wright has openly preached that racist, rich white people are the root of the economic oppression and exploitation of black citizens.  Then he retires and asks his “economically oppressed” congregation to build him a $1.6 million mansion and to finance a $10 million line of credit.

Darn those evil, greedy white people…

Guest Commentary: Christopher Reed For U.S. Senate

Guest commentary today comes from Christopher Reed for U.S. Senate (IA), who gave this speech to the Iowa College Republicans Federation this past Saturday:

Good afternoon and thank you to the College Republicans for having me here today.

My name is Christopher Reed, I am a business owner, I am a United States Navy Veteran. I am a conservative Republican running for United States Senate.

As the voter, your job at the primary on June 3rd is easy, pick the candidate who is best.

My job is to round up support, create excitement and prove to you that I am the best candidate.

As a small business owner, I know what it means to make a payroll. I know how hard it is for a small business to meet payroll taxes. In Iowa, businesses employing less than 20 people pay in over 500 million dollars in federal matching funds each year. These are not taxes, but the amount employers must match for their employee’s withholdings. That’s half a billion dollars Iowa businesses could be using each year to hire more employees, pay them higher wages, and even offer benefits. In Washington, one of my first priorities we be to lower this tax burden on our small businesses. Small businesses affect all of us. You may or may not be the owner of a small business, but everyone can agree that small business is the life-blood of our economy. In fact, many of you are probably employed by a small business, so this topic does affect you as well.

In Washington I will fight for family values and a child’s right to life. I am aware that there are alternative lifestyles out there and that they want their rights, but I will never compromise my principles and my core values to ever make marriage anything other than between one man and one woman. I believe family values begin at home. No one knows how to raise their children more than the father and mother.

I believe that every life is precious. I also believe that the 300 million tax dollars Planned Parenthood receives each year is an abomination and I will fight to end tax payer funded abortions.

I believe that we must keep God in our lives. In Washington I will fight the Democrats at every point where they want freedom from religion and not freedom of religion. George Washington said a “It is impossible to rightly govern a nation without God and the Bible.” Society without religion and morality is a society that will cease to be. Those words are over 200 years old, and they still ring true today. We must not allow the atheist minority to remove God from everyday life. Our country was founded on religious principles and so it shall remain.

I believe in Ronald Reagan’s vision of peace through strength. We must not allow Democrats to rule the Senate and dismantle the military as they did in early 1990’s. Having a strong and well trained military is the best way to ensure you never have to use it.

As I have traveled the state speaking to thousands of Iowans, there are 2 things that I hear the most.

1. Go get him, Tom Harkin needs to be beaten.

2. It’s too bad he can’t be beat.

Texas Strip Club Employs 12-Year-Old Girl

Governments want to tell restaurants how much toilet paper they must have in their restrooms, but there’s no recourse against a strip club that lets a sixth-grade girl dance nude?

The mere fact that a 12-year-old girl danced nude at a northwest Dallas strip club isn’t enough to close its doors.

That’s because the city ordinance that regulates sexually oriented businesses does not allow authorities to revoke the license of such a business for employing someone under the age of 18.

The sixth-grader danced at Diamonds Cabaret over a two-week period late last year, authorities say. They also say they found a 17-year-old girl working in the club in January.

What’s wrong with this picture?

The 23-page city ordinance does allow revocation of a club’s license if, for example, the club knowingly allows prostitution, the sale or use of drugs at the club, or if there are two convictions for sex-related crimes at the club within a 12-month period.

The department also can suspend, but not revoke, the license of an escort agency for up to 30 days if it has employed anyone under 18.

But the ordinance does not give the department similar power over adult cabarets such as Diamonds Cabaret.

Why are we only looking at city ordinances here?  Is there really no state or federal law that might prevent a strip club from hiring a sixth grader?  How ridiculous…

Bill Nelson’s Ironic Proposal

Sen. Bill Nelson (D-FL) has a fun new idea:

Seeking to end perpetual controversy in his party and his state, Florida Sen. Bill Nelson (D) on Thursday called for ending the Electoral College system and replacing it with a series of six regional primaries based on direct, popular vote.

Senator, here’s a basic civics lesson.  Our founding fathers, in their wisdom, designed the Electoral College to give proper representation to each of the states.  If the system depends only on the popular vote, candidates will never go to smaller states… they’ll just focus on the big urban centers like in California, New York, Texas, and Nelson’s own state of Florida (convenient?).

In addition, it just seems a bit hypocritical for a Democrat to be proposing an alternative right now.  His own party doesn’t even select their nominee “based on direct, popular vote,” and the ridiculous process they’ve put together is currently in a state of utter chaos with their own voters feeling marginalized and mad.  Is that what the general election should become?  Maybe we should have “superdelegates” in these six regions to ensure that the American people make the correct decision.

Ya… superdelegates!  Nearly one-fifth of their own primary delegates are not elected in the primary process, but are “superdelegates;” party elites who are, at this very moment, standing on the sidelines of the Hillary/Obama fight, trying to decide whether or not they should usurp the will of their own party and hand the nomination to a candidate who lost both the popular vote and the elected delegate count… maybe even to a candidate who isn’t running at all (Al Gore)!

Maybe if the Dems had designed their own primary process in a sensible way, I’d pay attention when they suggest changing the way that our nation has elected its leader since George Washington.  But they didn’t and therefore don’t have the credibility to claim that they have more wisdom than our founding fathers in this regard.

Get your own house in order…

Obama Promises to Raise Taxes

Presidential hopeful Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill) raised the prospect today of nearly doubling the capital gains tax if he is elected to the White House:

In an interview in conjunction with his big economic speech in New York, Senator Obama tells CNBC’s Maria Bartiromo he favors increasing the capital-gains tax rate.

Bartiromo reported after her interview: “Right now, as you know, the cap gains tax is at 15 percent. He has yet to give us a specific number. How high he wants that number to go? He has said, and he told me today, that he won’t go above 28 percent. So we are talking about the possibility of a doubling in the capital gains tax. He was averaging at about 25 percent.”

Obama also added during the interview:

What it will also do, I think, is allow us to… give some relief to middle class and working class families who have been driving this economy as consumers but have been doing it through credit cards and home equity loans.

Does Obama not realize that responsible “middle class and working families” also have investments that would be subject to nearly double taxation under his plan?  How does that give them “relief?”  It doesn’t.

The only people who will get “relief,” according to Obama, are people who have made poor financial decisions by living beyond their means with “credit cards and home equity loans.”

So, does Obama really represent, as he claims, a new kind of politics, or the same old tax and spend, income redistribution, socialistic scheme that the left has been pushing for generations?  You be the judge…

Former Gov. Spitzer Linked to Second Prostitution Ring

It just keeps getting worse for disgraced former Gov. Eliot Spitzer (D-NY).  It’s now been discovered that he was a client in a second prostitution ring:

Disgraced former Gov. Eliot Spitzer has been identified as a long-standing client of a second high-priced call-girl ring, The Post has learned.

The ex-governor regularly patronized Wicked Models, the Manhattan-based operation taken down Tuesday, according to financial documents and other evidence unearthed in a yearlong prostitution in vestigation, law-enforcement sources said.

The revelation comes three weeks after Spitzer was outed as “Client-9″ in a separate federal hooker probe involving the New Jersey-based Emperors Club VIP.

Whoops…

Wright’s Endorsement of Obama Disappears

The Obama camp scrubbed their internet site last week of Rev. Jeremiah Wright’s endorsement of the Illinois Senator.  Fortunately, Sweetness and Light has the full text:

I’m concerned with healthcare; the war in Iraq; the high rates of recidivism in our criminal justice system; the poor condition of the Illinois public school system. Many of the resources that go to support programs such as for those living with HIV/AIDS are now being spent to fund the war. We have to communicate… I support Barack because of his incarnated faith – his faith made alive in the flesh. He reaches across all faith communities and even to those who have no faith at all. He is building a community where everyone has worth. That kind of faith is not easy to find in 2007 and a man like Barack is a rarity.

It’s interesting that he mentioned people “living with HIV/AIDS,” but missed the opportunity to admonish the U.S. government for inventing the HIV virus as a means of genocide against people of color…”  But I digress.

Why did Obama choose this man as his pastor and personal mentor for two decades?  That’s one question the Illinois Senator has yet to answer…

Chicago Tax Hurting Chicago Business

Mayor Daley and his coalition of Chicago Dems raised taxes (big surprise) on bottled water five cents per container ($1.20 on a 24 pack).  Sales of bottled water is well below what was projected and the politicians are trying to spin this a January not being a popular month to buy water because of cold temperatures.  Here’s the catch though:

David Vite, president of the Illinois Retail Merchant’s Association, acknowledged that bottled water consumption rises with the temperature.

But that doesn’t explain away what Vite calls “enormous increases” in suburban bottled water sales, particularly in stores near the Chicago border.

Residents are just going just outside the city limits to buy their water.  I guess they’re smarter than their government gives them credit for…

Dictator Endorses Dems

Socialist Venezuelan dictator Hugo Chavez said Tuesday that relations between his country and the U.S. could worsen if Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz) wins the White House.

Remember when Democrats pretended to be incensed when Chavez called Bush “the Devil” at the U.N. podium and then “an alcoholic and a sick man” when he appeared with liberal actor Danny Glover in Harlem (granted, their “anger” was delayed a day so that they had enough time to run a couple of focus groups to find out if they should actually be mad)?  I wonder if they will be equally strong in rejecting Chavez’s endorsement of their candidates.

I doubt it, but is anyone surprised that dictators of the world are lining up behind the Dems?

Entitlement Programs Spiraling Toward Bankruptcy

The 2008 annual trustee reports have been released for both Medicare and Social Security and the verdict is not good.  Social Security is expected to go broke in 2041 (before this author reaches retirement age) and Medicare will go belly up in 2019 (just a shade over a decade).

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif) is - predictably - blaming President Bush, but Democrats have obstructed his efforts time and again to reform our ailing entitlement programs, even raucously applauding during his 2006 State of the Union address when he admonished Congress for not acting.  Does she not realize that any reforms have to first be passed by the House and the Senate?

Thus, the Dems continue to play the blame game and nothing will get done to ease the prohibitive strain these programs will put on the under thirty generations.

Nice…
