Former Governor Mitt Romney (R-Mass) has spent more money on television adds than all other GOP presidential candidates combined! That gets me thinking… all that money spent, and he only has one victory in a contested state, Michigan, which is the state where he grew up, and where his own father served as governor. His other victories – Wyoming, Nevada, and Maine – were in states where no other candidates even campaigned. In contested states, on the other hand, he consistently finishes second place.
Conservatives who are trying to rally the movement around this new convert need to keep in mind that second place doesn’t fly in general elections.
Former Gov. Mike Huckabee (R-Ark) is still a viable, electable Conservative candidate, who has as many wins in contested states as Mitt Romney… One. Like Romney, he’s not perfect, but he’s been able to gain a lot of support on a very meager budget. Give him another look on Super Tuesday…

For a self-described economic whiz, Romney seems to not have totally grasped one concept. You can’t sell a product that not enough people want to buy. No matter how glitzy the ads or the packaging or the item placement or the promotional budget.
It is insulting to my intellect that the pundits (some of whom have potential conflicts of interest – ala Clear Channel – that they have not disclosed until they were talked about by others) would say that Huckabee is a big spender and Romney is not. Romney would not have survived to this point in time in the campaign had he not had his own personal piggy bank to tap into (he’s spent perhaps about 25% or so of his net worth on the campaign – and we’re not even done with the PRIMARIES). Can you imagine Romney trying to run with Huckabee’s budget? And just as the Soviet Union spent itself into oblivion while we kept chugging, it’s not unlikely that Romney will decide he can’t spend anymore while the little guy from Hope lives to see another day.
In football terms, Romney has not won a road game in which his opponents have shown up. And the season’s more than half over. Think he can win in the playoffs and represent our Conference?
No, I think Romney would be the easiest kill in a general election. Can you imagine what Huckabee could have done with Romney’s budget? This thing would already be over…
[...] won West Virginia’s winner-take-all Republican primary. That gives Huckabee more wins in contested states than his chief rival, former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney. It is Huckabee’s first [...]
