More Income Redistribution

The White House and Congress have reached a compromise to send tax rebates of up to $1200 to families in order to “jolt the slumping economy.”  The catch is that these “rebates” will go to people who do not even pay income taxes and any individual who makes more than $75,000 per year or couple which makes more than $150,000 per year will not be eligible to receive them.

Simply put, this is just another scheme to redistribute wealth in this country… Par for the course these days, I guess, but pushing a system that punishes the successful and rewards the unproductive is bound to fail.  It’s great  job security for politicians handing out checks though.

  2. no, according to NBC News, you MUST have PAID taxes to get these refunds. People who didn’t pay DON’T get them. I paid and need mine — with gas so high, food so expensive, and everything else going up, up…..we both work and times are very, very hard for plain old working people. I’ve paid in plenty and this to me is just my money coming back to me. Not everyone is a deadbeat, some of us work hard and are not making it. The Republicans have ruined our country.

  3. That was the debate Velma… whether or not to give “refunds” to people who didn’t pay taxes. Many politicians wanted to, and most of them were Democrats with Sen. Max Baucus (D-Montana) leading the charge.

Regarding you working hard and “not making it,” I would just ask a few questions such as how many cars do you own? Do you pay for cable/satellite TV? Internet service? How large is your mortgage/apartment payment in proportion to your income? You get the point.

My wife and I also work very hard, but we make smart decisions with our money. We don’t waste it on non-essential items and then complain that we just aren’t making it. And if we do make an error, we don’t expect the taxpayers to bail us out. We just have to work through it. Do you think it’s fair for government to seize more of our hard-earned, middle-class paycheck so that they can give it away to people who make poor decisions?

Republicans haven’t ruined this country, Velma. An attitude that people are entitled to large withdrawals from the federal treasury and the politicians who pander to them has.
