Give Me Your… Thermostats? (Update)

California is reportedly abandoning its proposal to install thermostats in all homes and businesses that the state can control.  I don’t buy it.  The Enviro-socialists who sit on their private jets and think this stuff up will not rest until they can tell residents what temperature their house or business can be.

  1. This is thee most bizarre plan I have ever heard of, and defin the scariest. If this takes place, it’s time for a passport to the middle of nowhere. I am having a yard sale this week-end. It’s not about the thermostat. It’s about the Police State Antichrist.

  2. Get over yourself. The Californian government doesn’t want to control your life. They want to avoid having brownouts. The easiest way to do that is to raise people’s thermostat temps up to 4 degrees during critical electricity shortages that only happen on average 2.3 hours a year. Because of public outcry, they aren’t even going to have a mandatory setback. Everything is optional other than the thermostat itself.

If people would just use their AC less and accept that you are going to be hot in the summer if you live in the central valley, there wouldn’t be a need for this in the first place. But people want their house at 70 degrees year round, regardless of whether they live in a desert or not. The state is doing the right thing by moving people towards having to pay the true cost for the electricity they use.
