Ron Paul’s Electability

Last night in the Fox News debate, Ron Paul was asked about his electability. While the question gave him the opportunity to explain his stance, it was presented in a mocking way which resulted in some of the attendees and candidates robustly laughing at the Representative from Texas. It’s disappointing to see some of the candidates regularly mock a man who, I believe just like the others, has the best interest of the United States at heart.

Why didn’t Fox News ask Fred Thompson this question? He hasn’t faired much better than Paul in the recent primaries, and his poll numbers aren’t impressive. He has his moments, but his speaking engagements and debate performances have been less than inspiring and rarely interesting.  It’s argued that it shouldn’t matter, but it does. One can be thoroughly educated on a candidate’s positions, but if the candidate can’t convince the American people he cares, how will he win over congress or an ally?

Why not present the question to Romney? He spent millions more than the other candidates in New Hampshire and Iowa and landed securely second in each. Spending that much cash and coming up short puts into question his electability.

Overall, no matter who wins the primary, the members of the Republican party need to know that their candidate is going to be armed with respect, facts, and passion for what he believes. It’s difficult to trust those who try to get a boost by stepping on someone’s head.

  1. Questioning his electability was not the only shot taken at Dr. Paul in that debate. Have a look:
