Honor Killings Arrive in America?

When I read this story on FoxNews yesterday, I instantly got a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach. A man had shot his two teenage daughters in Texas and left them for dead in his taxi. One of the girls lived long enough to call 911, but authorities could not find the vehicle until an hour later, at which time both girls had already died.

There is now a massive manhunt under way for Yaser Abdel Said, a 50-year-old Egyptian immigrant now suspected of killing both of his girls. But why?

Though the Associated Press refused, not surprisingly, to mention Said’s religion, reality tells us that there is no doubt that his Muslim beliefs played a prominent role in guiding his detestable actions. The Dallas Morning News is reporting today:

“Police did say they are looking into the possibility that the father was upset with his daughters’ dating activities.”

The feeling in the pit of my stomach was correct. This was an “honor killing.” We recently posted about this Muslim sacrament being imported to Canada, but now Said has brought it within our borders. He considered his daughters’ westernized behavior to be ignominious and his perverse dogma led him to take their lives. It’s a foreign ideology so wicked that, until now, we could dismiss it as merely the deed of extremist nuts on the other side of the world.

Now however, the War on Terror has arrived on our soil again; Not the terror of airplanes and skyscrapers, but the trepidation faced by young Muslim women whose crime of assimilation has become a capital offense, with their own Fundamentalist fathers serving as judge, jury, and executioner.

  4. I have to comment that such behavior is intollerable and condemend under any system or religion….. but I want you to listen to yourself when you said “Police did say they are looking into the possibility that the father was upset with his daughters’ dating” you jumped to a conclusion without even having a strainght fact. I like to create your own myth, believe, reinforcing it by associating the muslims with the 9/11 with no exemption or proof…I invite you to read Mr. Bilof book “the CIA and 9/11- Global terror – 2004″, by the way Bilof is the ex-head of intelligence in Germany.
It is righteous to condemn an unspeakable behaviour of a father killing his siblings, but your associations are not objective and your judgement with no proofs reminds me of the Bush Doctorine in Iraq.

  5. “criticned,” we’ll let this pan out and if we are mistaken in calling this an honor killing we’ll certainly print a retraction. This is not without “facts” though, as you are accusing. Read the articles, and especially our link to the FishWrap blog. This Muslim man killed his daughters because they assimilated into American culture and your willingness to defend a religion that teaches people to do this is simply repulsive.

  6. “JlG’ I would look forward to your comments when things become clearer after research….I am not defending a religion, I wish I can, I high lighting the repulisiveness in behaviour when you judge before proved guilty…..as for the religion, your accusations reminds me when an ant stands on an ocean trying to spit in it…..who do you think will vanish….

  7. [...] January 3, 2008 — JLG And speaking of brutal Muslim practices that are being imported to the civilized world, female genital mutilation has been carried out on nearly 70,000 young girls [...]

  8. “criticned,” the ant thing doesn’t make any sense, but we’ll see who’s proved right in the case of these murdered girls.

  9. I think criticned’s point is: You say yourself that the articles don’t mention the father’s religion, but you automatically assume it to be Islam. Are you wrong? Hell if I know; I don’t know what the majority religion is in Egypt. But it’s the same thing as my father, who — when hearing of someone getting shot in KC — automatically says something about “them negroes.”

This is NOT a crime about religion. Culture, maybe, but certainly not religion — NO religion encourages or accepts murder. This man was sick. This man needs to go to jail for a very long time. I can’t imagine what the community is going through. Oh, wait, I can: Probably some BS about 9/11 and how them evil a-rabs need to get off our planet.

The fact of the matter is, white people (Christians, even!) do some pretty terrible stuff, too. No religious group has a monopoly on evil. It, as they say, takes all kinds.

  10. (zombie z) I can understand your point and idea based on information given only in the article; it would seem your stance on not zeroing in on religion is a non-biased high-ground approach. However, having lived in that town and knowing the two girls, here are a few true facts. One, they were Muslims. Two, the town is and will not begin the 911 rantings against Muslim terror and professed beliefs. The school actually has a decent Muslim population and handles itself well in the integration of their belief system. In fact, the school is very diverse and has a strong ethnic diversity of just about every kind of race there (over 2600 students attend). Third, this is definitely a case of murder in reflection of two girls who dated (probably without their father’s permission) other races and religion. If I had to bet my savings on why he killed them, his religious beliefs that they should marry within their faith and even a step further, an Egytian decent was the motivation behind his actions. I applaud your stance on the fact people of all religions commit terrible attrocities on behalf of religious doctrine; you are quite correct. However, unfortunately, this was one of those terrible cases. I mourn for both of the girls who truly were sweet kids, who also were very bright students in school.

  11. Leap — and that is fine…I’m certainly not implying that we should censor the truth to attain “Political Correctness.” But YOU have evidence of the fact that he was Muslim, and that it was likely related to the man’s culture (or religious) feelings about his daughter’s behavior. JLG, on the other hand, took the leap from brown man to extremist Muslim.

Thank you for sharing more information… and I apologize for my snap judgment on the community as a whole. I’m glad to hear there are some decent ones out there.

  12. It’s pretty obvious to a trained eye that the murders of the Said sisters in suburban Dallas were dishonor killings.

  13. Yesterday too a Hindu father burned alive his daughter, her husband, his grandson because his daughter marrierd and indian man from a different cast. I did not see any condemnation of the Hindu religion. Why do we jump all over Islam, when it does not condone such killing. Honor killing is a nasty habit that the Arabs invented before Islam. In the most strict Islamic society,Saudi Arabia, the punishment of Adultery (for unmarried persons) is whipping, NOT murder. This guy would executed for the murder under Islamic law.

There are people being killed in the US for even more trivial reasons: for as liitle as a can of Soda in a grocery store. Why is that any more civilized than what this guy did. Fox’s anti-Islamic, pro-jewish agenda is well known. Like vulchers they jumped on this one and blamed Islam for it.

  14. FoxNews Jews? What are you talking about “JJ?”

  15. Ok, condemning a religion based on this mans actions? Nowhere in the Qu’ran does it say to kill your offspring for any reason. So if it isn’t in there why blame them for something that isn’t there? Was Jesus gay because there are gay christians? No and saying yes based ont he assumption makes you a ignorant little prick so the writer of this article of some of these comments are just plain offensive and should stop writing this filth now.

  16. Oh, you know, Jews Run The World, etc… It would’ve been nice if that kind of thinking had died out around the time Hitler had, but no luck.

The majority of the country is pretty anti-Islam right now, and it has nothing to do with Jews and everything to do with 9/11. Not that Islam technically had anything to do with 9/11, but Bush scoffs at such “facts.” It’s no coincidence that “truthiness” was invented during his term.

  17. Oh and JLG you go to Lewisville high school the school these two girls went to?

  18. “The_Saracen,” You and your ilk try to silence everyone you don’t agree with. It won’t work here. Perhaps you should try making a coherent argument next time. Gay Christians? 1 Corinthians 6:9-11.

  19. “zombie z,” Islam had everything to do with 9/11. Remember? Islamo-fascists flew airplanes into the trade towers and the pentagon. Are you arguing it was an inside job? That’s utter crap.

  20. And Christianity had everything to do with the crusades, but (most) people aren’t arguing that Christians are all evil.

  21. “zombie z,” Am I arguing that Muslims are all evil? No… so I don’t understand what you’re implying here.

  22. JLG’s post is acceptable. He raised a question based upon the facts he knew and gave his personal opinion. Does it look like honor killings? Yes. Is the primary religion in Egypt Islam? Yes. By the way, how does one not know that? Was the question of the dating practices presented by the authorities? Yes. Has anything like this ever happened because of a similar set of circumstances? Yes.

To rephrase Johnny Cochran… if the glove fits…

On the other hand, could it be an anomaly and the guy just lost his cool at his daughters because he was nuts (no matter what though, he’s nuts) and nothing else? Yes.

Are all Islamic people horrible? No way. But I do wonder how many of them cringed when they saw this story in the news, because they understood what happened.
