Scandalous is certainly how Liberals want to portray this ministry video produced by Campus Crusade for Christ (CCC) at the Air Force Acadamy in Colorado. The reaction by one Liberal group, Military Religious Freedom Foundation (RMFF), is almost humorus, enlisting ABC News to join the malay.
The video contains interviews of several cadets who talk about how the para-church group has enhanced their experience at the academy. It’s the same story shared by millions of students on the campuses of state and private universities throughout the U.S. where these groups have a presence.
However, opponents are focused on one phrase uttered by CCC Campus Director Scott Blom, who says in the video:
“Our purpose for Campus Crusade for Christ at the Air Force Academy is to make Jesus Christ the issue at the Air Force Academy and around the world. And I think that we’re seeing God do that. We’re seeing kids come to Christ, being built up in their faith, and being sent out to reach the world. They’re government paid missionaries when they leave here.”
While Blom could have chosen his words more carefully, there’s no scandal here. Christians are called to be a light for Christ wherever we go, regardless of one’s employer. An individual sharing his or her personal faith is not a violation of the U.S. Constitution as the MRFF claims.
In fact, the free exercise of religion is guaranteed therein…
