McCain the New Front Runner?

According to Rasmussen, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) has taken the national lead for the Republican presidential nomination:

“These results come as McCain—for the first time all year–finds himself on top of a GOP national poll with support from 17% of Likely Republican Primary Voters. In the muddled GOP race, McCain becomes the third person to top the poll this month and the fourth since October.”

Now, I don’t think that a national poll has anything more than psychological significance (especially when the top five candidates are all between 12% and 17%), but McCain has also been making very significant progress in New Hampshire.  A victory there, and I could be seriously eating my words about the death of his campaign.

And in a primary that has focused heavily on religion, McCain’s genuine credentials make him an increasingly-attractive candidate (he would still need to amend his stances on campaign finance and immigration to get my support in the Iowa Caucus though).

Sike!

According to a NY Times Political blog, Huckabee’s camp put together a negative ad directed toward Romney, and then decided not to show it. Well, he decided not to show it to the public. He aired it for a room full of reporters at a press conference. They don’t count. According to Hucky, “It’s never too late to do the right thing.” Whew! I’m glad that man is showcasing his morals. I say do the right thing by actually telling us how you’re going to make the United States the best it can be. That will help a lot more than a negative ad that almost made it to the airwaves…sort of.

Benazir Bhutto Assassinated (Update 3)

A new video of the assassination of former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto has surfaced.  It appears to show Bhutto being shot in the head by an attacker at close range.  That makes the the Pakistani government’s explanation of her death look like a poor attempt at a cover up, perhaps because of the lax security they had provided her.

My Endorsement Goes To Huckabee

Unfortunately, my endorsement is more a product of who I must eliminate rather than who I enthusiastically support.

Mayor Rudy Giuliani (R-NY) is the first to fall. He does not have a respect for the life of the unborn nor an interest in the protection of the family. His performance after 9/11 make me believe he could lead FEMA, but not necessarily protect this country.

Gov. Mitt Romney (R-MA) is the next to fall. He calls himself pro-life, but endorses embryonic stem-cell research and holds that abortion should be a states issue. Those are effectively pro-choice positions, as I’ve said before.

While I like the fact the Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX) does not want to continue policing the entire world, his non-interventionalist approach has not convinced me that he will do whatever it takes to protect this country against global Jihad.

Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) supports campaign finance laws (which restrict free speech) and amnesty for illegal immigrants, eliminating him in my book.

I agree most with Sen. Fred Thompson (R-TN) on policy, and he was my candidate until September. He just hasn’t brought his A game, nor showed that he can handle the rigors of a national campaign, let alone the Oval Office.

Thus, I’m endorsing Gov. Mike Huckabee (R-AR). He’s solid on the issues of protecting life and the traditional family and I believe he will do what must be done to protect this country. His support of the Fair Tax also makes me believe that he will take the needed steps to reign in federal spending and even reduce the size of our behemoth government.

Why I’m Voting For Fred D. Thompson - The Clear Conservative Choice

This Iowan is voting for Fred D. Thompson.  Why?  Because we founded this website on conservative principles and FDT is the most conservative candidate in the race.

Sure, he may not like the way presidential politics is played and he comes across at times as being disinterested in the Presidency; but I would much rather have that kind of honesty from a candidate (after all, if he loses he’ll “go back to being a family man”) than the dishonesty of a candidate who’s willing to say absolutely anything to get his hands around the nomination (read: Romney).

I just finished reading “Lone Survivor” by Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell (The Eyewitness Account of Operation Redwing) and I am admonished by this quote from his book:

“For me, it began in Iraq, the first murmurings from the liberal part of the U.S.A. that we were somehow in the wrong, brutal killers, bullying other countries…it’s been an insidious progression, the criticisms of the U.S. Armed Forces from politicians…who know nothing of combat, nothing of our training, and nothing of the mortal dangers we face out there on the front line(emphasis added).

Fred Thompson understands the danger of Islamofacism, the strength of pro-growth economic policies, the value of life, and the virtue of character. His record in the United States Senate is clear: he ushered Supreme Court Justice John Roberts through a treacherous nomination process, he’s fully supported the Global War on Terror; he received the endorsement of the National Right to Life; he recognizes an individual right to bear arms; and his conservative credentials roll on and on…without Romney-esque, even-year flip-flops.

And so, I will cast my vote on January 3, 2008 for Fred D. Thompson, the only candidate in the race who can honestly say he’s the consistent Reagan Conservative - “Hands Down”.

Why I’ll Cast My Vote for Ron Paul

Consistency and truth is why I’m endorsing Congressman Ron Paul (R-TX). He has been faithful to his job as an OBGYN, to his 10 terms as a representative and, it appears, to his family. Dr. Paul has strong morals that can be seen in the way he lives his life personally and professionally. As a student of history he has done extensive research and fully knows and loves the Constitution. He wants us to be governed by it.

Often he is accused of being an isolationist, but if his policies are fully read, he is clearly a non-interventionist. He knows we can’t continue to police the world. His reasons are that it is not constitutional; we can’t afford it; our dollar is declining, and our awesome military (which I believe he loves) is spread thin around the world. He does believe we can afford to openly communicate and trade with the world. He also wants us to gather intelligence and be prepared to defend ourselves and go to a congressionally-declared war when necessary.

Representative Paul does not try to deceive the people by isolating issues that may buy him popular votes, but he knows that everything works together. One can try to fix healthcare with a plan, but if the dollar is worthless, no government-regulated plan will do it.

I must vote for a man who throughout his career has been consistent, and I just believe he’s right.  Learn more for yourself.  Ron Paul 2008

Our Picks for President

There are currently three contributors who write for BoldColorConservative.com. Each of us holds strong Conservative-leaning policy convictions, but diverge at times on specific issues as well as which issues wield priority. As like-minded, yet independent young professionals, each of us has settled on a different candidate to support in the upcoming Republican caucuses and primaries (two of us are Iowans and the third a Floridian), and in the following posts, each of us will briefly make our case…

Petraeus’ Letter To The Troops

A Question for Gov. Romney

If given the opportunity, I would like to ask presidential hopeful Gov. Mitt Romney (D-MA) the following question:

Gov. Romney, throughout your campaign, you have consistently referred to yourself as pro-life and you make a very convincing case that life does indeed begin at conception.  However, in an interview with Katie Couric on December 5th, you expressed your support for embryonic stem-cell research and on Dec. 16th you told Tim Russert that you are in favor of letting each state choose whether or not a citizen can take the life of an unborn child.  Can you explain how those positions can be considered “pro-life,” given that most pro-life individuals believe ALL life, from conception to natural death, to be valuable and worthy of protection?

Benazir Bhutto Assassinated (Update 2)

Pakistani government sources are now reporting that former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto was killed, not by bullets or bomb shrapnel, but from a skull fracture suffered when trying to duck back down through the sun roof of the vehicle she was standing in.  The shock wave from the suicide bomb blast caused her head to hit a lever attached to the sun roof resulting in the lethal head injury.  This would be consistent with a report by one of the surgeons who tried to save Bhutto’s life who said that she was not shot, but died of a head wound (he assumed the wound was from bomb shrapnel).

Supporters of Bhutto are calling the explanation a pack of lies,” saying Bhutto was shot twice, once in the abdomen and once in the head, and are accusing the government of “a serious security lapse.”  Sadly, we’ll probably never know for sure as no autopsy was performed and Bhutto’s body was laid to rest earlier today.

Either way, a potentially-vital U.S. ally was tragically and brutally assassinated yesterday in Pakistan by Islamic extremists.
