Murtha’s Memo (Update 2)

Here’s some more fallout from the admission by Congressman John Murtha (D-PA) that the surge is workingin Iraq.  One top Democratic aide in the House, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that Murtha’s admission of progress by our troops, “could be a real headache for us.  Pelosi is going to be furious.”

I’m reminded of when House Majority Whip James Clyburn (D-SC) said last July that positive reports from Iraq would be a real big problem for us.”

Well Madame Speaker, we’re sorry you’re offended by the truth about the success of our troops, despite all the efforts by you and your party to sabotage their mission over there.  We’ll all be interested to see how you will berate our brave men and women in uniform now, trying to weasel your way out of that “real big problem” that their hard work, dedication, and sacrifice have caused for you…

Neo-Nazis Now More ‘Seeker Friendly’

A white-supremacist, anti-Semitic group, which has dubbed themselves “The United Church of YHWH,” has decided to ban neo-Nazi imagery in their “services” in an effort to reach out to more people:

“The group banned the use of Nazi uniforms, red arm bands and similar regalia because they were an instant turnoff to people who might otherwise be open to the church’s teachings…”

Well isn’t that nice… You know for me, it’s not their heretical theology or hateful ideology that keeps me from joining… it’s those pesky swastikas that they wear on their arms (please note the sarcasm employed here).

By the way, YHWH is derived from the Hebrew word Yahweh, which is one of the many names used in the Old Testament to address a Holy God.  Does anyone else find it ironic that an anti-Semitic organization would use a Hebrew word in their group’s name?

Well, maybe it’s not so much irony as it is just pure ignorance…

Murtha’s Memo (Update)

The recent admission by Congressman John Murtha (D-PA) that he thinks the surge is working,” sure is a far cry from what he said during this interview last July when he called early success from the troop surge in Iraq, “an illusion.”

Good thing we didn’t take his advice, surrender, and pull out immediately giving terrorists a major victory in the War on Terror, huh?

National Center for Physical Development and Outdoor Play?

Yes… that’s the name of the newest bureaucracy, brought to you by your friendly neighborhood federal government.  Does anyone else find it troubling that the federal government now feels that it is their responsibility to make sure your children play outside enough and will spend millions of dollars to make sure that they do?

This is what happens when the family breaks down and ceases to be a sturdy pillar in society.  There are few problems our nation faces that wouldn’t be solved and few over-fed government bureaucaracies that wouldn’t be dissolved if more men simply took responsibility for their own children, rather than vacating the home and leaving mothers to fend for themselves.

Murtha Finally Got the Memo!

Last week, I wrote an article on this blog entitled “Murtha Missed the Memo?” (a post that was linked to from both the Washington Times and Wall Street Journal websites).  Basically, the BCC post questions how, when even the biased New York Times is reporting good news in IraqCongressman John Murtha (D-PA) could still be declaring, We can’t win militarily.”

Well, the memo apparently just arrived on Murtha’s desk.  The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette is reporting today that Murtha is now changing his tune, conceding this week, “I think the surge is working.”  Cliff May of National Review reports that Murtha was “most encouraged by changes in the once-volatile Anbar province, where locals have started working closely with U.S. forces to isolate insurgents linked to Al Qaeda.”  No word yet on whether Murtha plans to apologize to our men and women in uniform for doubting their hard work, dedication, and sacrifice.

I’m not holding my breath… he hasn’t even apologized for falsely accusing them of war crimes at Haditha…

Debate Debacle UPDATE (2)

The bloggers are up in arms over the YouTube debate, pointing out CNN’s many mistakes.

Thanks to reader Todd for this analysis of the debate.

In case you missed it, here’s Anderson Cooper’s acknowledgment of the Kerr mistake:

Ivy-League High Schools

How bad do you want your children to get into an Ivy League university?

Are you willing to spend $39,000 a year for high school tuition?

$23,000 Toilets UPDATE (4)

Joyce Meyer Ministries has responded to Senator Grassley’s inquiry, and has produced a letter from the IRS dated October 10, 2007 wherein the ministry was determined to qualify for tax-exempt status.

Joyce wants you to know that the $23,000 toilet is “not a common household toilet” and did not actually cost $23,000, though the ministry did not release the actual price. It did say that 68 pieces of furniture costing $261,000 were used to finish her 150,000 square foot headquarters.

The ministry’s annual financial reports can be found here.

The St. Louis Business Journal also named Joyce Meyer Ministries one of the best places to work in 2007.

Wisconsin Correctly Protecting Babies

A Wisconsin man by the name of Manishkumar Patel faces life in prison for “fetal homicide” after he slipped abortion pills into his girlfriend’s food without her knowledge, causing her to miscarry on two separate occasions.  His actions are despicable, and he deserves to go to prison for taking an innocent life and endangering the life of his girlfriend.

In related news, Liberals are still fighting to ensure that these drugs are made available to everyone, male or female, without a prescription and also to force all pharmacists to sell the drugs, despite any of their own moral objections.

Perhaps this is exactly the kind of abuse these objecting pharmacists are concerned about…
